It's not often that you hear the following:

"I sleep better now knowing that you

This quote is from the Managing Partner who recently retained The Garver Group, Inc. under a bookkeeping support plan to replace their Office Manager/Bookkeeper of two years who was leaving. We began our support two weeks prior to the departure of this key individual. On beginning our support, we discovered a disturbing fact and immediately set to work in reconciling nine months of bank statements (a red flag in and of itself). In doing so, we uncovered a systematic pattern of unauthorized withdrawals from the firm’s bank accounts. Because of this quick action, the firm was able to confront the employee, obtain an admission and eliminate further losses.

While not a unique situation, it is indicative that many firms ‘overlook too much’. In this situation, the attempt to cover up was incredibly sloppy, demonstrated a complete lack of competence with the Tabs3 programs and was indicative of the general state of the firm’s bookkeeping activities in general. That has all since changed.
